SEE: Alice Tully Hall / New York City
New energy pulsates at the corner of Broadway and West 65th Street with the recent renovation of one of Lincoln Center’s most under-recognized venues. Architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro carved into the original boxy building, which houses both Alice Tully Hall and the Juilliard School, to dramatically expose the once-hidden lobby to the street. The hall itself now sports a new veneer of African hardwood, called mobai, behind which are embedded LED lights that offer a rich yet subtle glow when reflected off the wood (1941 Broadway; LincolnCenter.org).— Katherine Lagomarsino
