Amy Lau’s Secret to Fearless Use of Color
"The easiest way to break out of an all-neutral safety zone and embrace color is to take baby steps. Infuse color into your room slowly so you have a chance to warm up to it. Add it to create meaningful focal points as we did in Dexter’s dining room," notes Amy Lau. "Treat this like a process. It’s all about identifying the right colors, so over a couple of months, tear out magazine photos and study the art in your home. Find out what colors attract you. I also like to go into clients’ closets to gauge their comfort zone with color and pattern. The biggest clues in the world are a man’s neckties. From them, I can see just how far he’s willing to go with color, pattern and texture."
