In tight quarters, "cabinets are more efficient than closets because there's no wasted space," says Buttrick, who installed four cupboards with rods for hanging clothes and drawers for shirts and shoes in the hallway behind the master bedroom. A stretch of open shelving fitted with canvas bags offers additional storage overhead.
