69 • Water + Life Museum, Hemet, CA

Located near the entrance of the man-made Diamond Valley Lake, these sister museums, designed by Lehrer + Gangi Design + Build to resemble giant water turbines, tell the story of Southern California's infrastructure. The Center for Water Education includes a simulated dam; the Western Center for Archaeology and Paleontology houses Pleistocene fossils (CenterForWater.org, WesternCenterMuseum.org). -- KL
