62 • The Green Project, New Orleans

This worthy Big Easy group is doing its part to keep excess waste out of local landfills. Instead of bulldozing historic buildings, they deconstruct them by hand to salvage reusable materials and preserve the city's architectural heritage. The salvaged goods -- from toilets to front doors -- are then sold in their nonprofit warehouse (TheGreenProject.org). -- FH
