57 • Yestermorrow Design/Build School

Launched in 1980, this private Vermont school had the vision to develop a college-level curriculum of one-day to two-week courses that acknowledges the interconnectedness of design, construction and craftsmanship in home-building. Its founders believe that architects should know how to build, that builders should know how to design and that every project should be green. The school's latest effort: the Strawbale house, at left (Yestermorrow.org). -- KL
