"Design Cities," a new exhibition organized by London's Design Museum and Istanbul Modern, compares Istanbul's white-hot design movement with the one in Vienna circa 1908. Thanks to Istanbul-based firms like Gaia and Gino,our idea of Turkish design has evolved beyond kilims amd Iznik tiles to include such deftly engineered objects as Aziz Sariyer's Igloo for Derin -- an 8-by-12-foot laminated plywood retreat (around $25,000; DerinDesign.com) and Autoban's 63-inch lacquered King lamp (featured: $2,095; Autoban-DeLaEspada.com). -- JSA
