A Change in the Wind

Up on the roof, a trellis of photovoltaic solar panels is topped by ten-foot-tall vertical-axis wind turbines—the first ever approved by the city of Chicago for residential use. Together, they “generate about 10,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, which is roughly half the building’s electrical needs,” says project architect Greg Gibson.
