Speaking Volumes In the 13-by-15-foot living room, Olson moved what she called the "spray-can gold" piano to make way for a tufted camel-back sofa; a tic-tac-toe wall treatment of nine gold-colored squares hangs behind it. On either side of the sofa, Olson placed ebony-painted bookcases that blend into the similarly hued walls (the designer chose a cool black, with blue undertones, as a contrast to the piano's warm finish). Two tiny but powerful speakers, set on the second shelves from the top, are barely noticeable - a far cry from Doug's in-your-face originals.
