Interior Doors (continued)
FOLDING
Description Also referred to as accordion doors, this variety—in effect, a creased partition—operates on a dual-glider roller system and can be hung from the ceiling or a finished opening.
Best For Odd-size areas and utility nooks—for example, a recess where a water heater might be placed.
Options Colorful vinyl and heavy-duty PVC are most common, but wood, wood laminate, fiberglass, and metal versions are becoming popular choices.
Pros The least expensive option, folding doors are DIY friendly.
Cons Most accordion models don’t insulate or block sound.
Cost From $25 for a vinyl or PVC door with woven, narrow slats to $160 for oversize versions with a UV-resistant varnish to prevent fading.
Shown Natural oak vinyl laminate folding door. From $96 per linear foot. Woodfold, woodfold.com
