Interior Doors (continued)
SLIDING
Description Doors move back and forth along a wheel-and-track system. best for Longer, reachin (as opposed to walk-in) closets.
Options Solid wood, engineered wood, and MDF models in panel, louvered, flush, and partglass styles. Optional door-mounted mirrors and marker-board surfaces add to the functionality.
Pros Easy to install and adjustable to accommodate gaps in an out-of-square opening (doorways aren’t always perfectly square), sliding doors don’t eat up any floor space.
Cons Limited accessibility—doors slide from one side of the closet to the other instead of out of view. Models mounted from a single wheel can be noisy and frequently slip off the track.
Cost $15 to $50 for track system hardware; $50 to $500 for the door.
Shown V-Groove solid MDF sliding doors. $752/pair. TruStile Doors, trustile.com.
