Interior Doors (continued)
BIFOLD
Description Configured in hinged pairs of panels, these doors are hung on a rolling track.
Best For Hiding the contents of pantries and closets; fine for separating rooms, too.
Options Made of solid wood, engineered wood, MDF, or hollow-core plywood with wood veneer; the most common styles include panel, louvered, mirrored and glass-insert models.
Pros Bifold doors offer a solution in areas that can’t accommodate the swing of a traditional door. They fold away from the center and allow easy access inside.
Cons DIY installation isn’t impossible, but precision is key. Hinge, pivot, and track placement must be exact to ensure smooth gliding movement.
Cost $25 to $650. Most expensive are doors with solid-wood construction or intricate glass inserts.
Shown Stile-andrail solid-wood bifold door with glass. About $195. Masonite, masonite.com.
