Interior Doors (continued)
HINGED
Description Available either in prehung or slab units. The first come ready to install in rough openings with jamb and hinges attached; the second are sized to fit in finished openings but require drilling holes for hardware.
Best For Anywhere.
Options Solid wood, engineered wood, medium density fiberboard (MDF), or hollow-core plywood with wood veneer. Design options include flush, panel, louvered, and glass-insert models.
Pros Prehung units are easier to install. Both types open completely. Those with a solid core block sound when closed.
Cons Slab doors are more difficult to hang. Hiring a carpenter is recommended. Both slab and prehung varieties require 8 to 10 square feet of space to open fully.
Cost From $25 for a wood veneer slab to $1,000 for a custom-made model.
Shown Molded Classique slab door. From $55. CraftMaster Interior Doors, 800-405-2233.
