Whether employed to connect two areas or to conceal a closet's contents, interior doors can enhance the style of a room, says Rick Perry, director of industry standards for the Window & Door Manufacturers Association. And the average home has about 20 of them, so choosing the right one is not just a simple open-and-shut decision. Before shopping for a door, examine the height, width, and depth of the opening, the amount of space around it, and the unit's purpose—for instance, a bedroom door needs to block sound, but a laundry room might require a louvered model that ventilates.
