Console Confidence (continued)

Three ways to make the most of an occasional table

Catchall with Cachet
To keep us organized and on-the-go, a hallway console should be clean and uncluttered. An orderly, serene surface will not only welcome you home each day but also prevent creating negative first impressions. Select a multitasking tray with compartments sized for keys, mail, and loose change. Repeat the shape of a demilune table by mounting above it an oval, frameless mirror on its long axis; the mirror aids last-minute primping as you leave the house. Bring a touch of nature indoors and add height with a tall flowering plant, such as a single-stemmed white orchid, potted in an elegant, hand-painted vessel. Place storage—boxes and bowls, for example—on the bottom shelf. Vary their sizes and shapes, but maintain consistency by featuring only one material, whether it is rattan, metal, plastic, or wood.
