Ty's Team: Rob Stern
Meet Ty's Friend and colleague, master glassblower Rob Stern

Ty and Stern sketch plans for a new piece.

Inspecting the shape. "Much of my work is generated from the happy accidents that occur during the process," says Stern.Talking with artist Rob Stern, you get the feeling he wouldn't mind living in a glass house. "Glass and light go hand in hand, it's a magical material," he says. "When I started working with glass, I began to look at the world in a different way."
Ty and Stern became pals while attending art schools and hanging out at skateboarding ramps together in Atlanta. "We would always challenge each other to go bigger and higher with our skate tricks," says Ty of their daredevil days. That same spirit is what drew Stern to glass. "It's a bit of a thrill-seeking thing," Stern says. Heating material to a molten 2,000°F daily, Stern is literally playing with fire.
