One of the easiest—and fastest—ways to freshen any room is to alter the window treatments. With just one sweep of colorful silk or swag of linen, a room can go from comfy cozy in winter to light, bright and airy for spring. The entire mood of the room can be transformed by the type of window treatments you choose: hard or soft; light or dark. Still, there are always a few key questions to ask before you go swapping out one style for another.

What styles, patterns and colors would suit the room’s furnishings and designs?
How much light is needed in the room?
What type of mood are you trying to set?
What is the size and shape of your window?

Even as you ask yourself these questions, remember that there are no hard and fast rules. In the end, your imagination and sense of style are the only two guidelines that really matter. So have some fun!
