About to become parents, a pair of Portland, Oregon, restaurateurs fell for a 1960s ranch house on a goat farm just minutes from downtown

When they first spotted a circa-1969 ranch house available in Portland's West Hills, Bruce Carey and Joe Rogers had only recently moved into a Pearl District condo with a postcard city view and an easy walk to their four restaurants. But with an infant son arriving, the partners needed more space -- and they didn't want to spend time on long commutes from the suburbs or countryside.
