It used to be that a single porch light provided enough illumination for someone to navigate his way through a yard and up to the front door. But one beacon would keep today's larger landscapes and winding walkways in the dark. To create safe walks and driveways -- and add to a home's curb appeal -- Leslie Segrete, host of WE-tv's The Ugliest House on the Block, suggests installing path lighting. "It's so simple," she says. "You don't need an electrician or experience with wiring." Choose low-voltage, exterior-grade fixtures or solar-powered ones, which are easier to install than hard-wired models. The type that's best for your home depends largely on the location of the lights; solar lamps require lots of sunshine to work properly. Then follow Segrete's advice to light the way.
