MARK CUTLER STYLE GUIDE: Favorite Fireplaces

In Category: Decorating

It seems that Halloween has just passed us by in a blur and Thanksgiving is staring us right in the face, but it appears that it's never too early to start getting ready for Christmas. I took a few moments today to wander through a local mall and I was appalled to see that Christmas decorations are going up in haste. Now don't get me wrong, I love the holidays, but doesn't it seem just a tad early?

One of my favorite parts of the cooler months is the chance to snuggle up in front of a fireplace and relax, perhaps read a book. So today I thought I would post some images of some of my favorite fireplaces.

(Above) The rough stone creates a sense of warmth in this room, as well as mixing it with the hand worked metal.  That chair is a perfect spot to sit with a hot chocolate and read the latest design magazines.

I had to include this outdoor fireplace, because in California, even in the midst of winter it is great to enjoy the sun and fire at the same time.

I love the way that this fireplace acts as an anchor in the room. Flanked by those tall stained glass windows it makes an impressive statement.

Even a more modern designed fireplace can be a cozy spot. The combination of stainless steel and wood creates a warmth that neither material could alone.
