MARK CUTLER STYLE GUIDE: 5 Of My New Favorite Things

In Category: Decorating

I am an impossible shopper, yesterday’s favorite is quickly cast aside for today's fancy, but I thought it might be nice to memorialize some of the things that have given me that glint in my eye, well, at least for now.

Woven Rattan Leaf Chair

One of the highlights of my trip to the mailbox is the arrival of the new Wisteria Catalogue; it always has such interesting things. I have to admit though that when I saw these Rattan Leaf Chairs, my heart skipped a beat. They are so beautiful, and unusual, I am racking my brain trying to find places to use them. They are shown in a garden room, which I think is a terrific choice, but what a great selection for a breakfast room too, or perhaps even an entry hall. They just strike me as being so "happy" looking. They are new to the catalogue so I hope that they will be around for a while. Wisteria .

Robot Lamp

OK! Are they serious? These are so cool It hurts! I want to buy six of them and use them all in a row; I am just in love with these little guys. While they would be perfect in a boy's room, I think they would make a great "unexpected element" in a much more serious space, like a living room. If you could imagine a room done in white velvet and orange accents, very chic and then one of these lamps on the side table, I think it would be just enough to take the seriousness away from the room, but not enough to look juvenile. Urban Outfitters.

Utopia Wall Clock

I was looking for the perfect wall clock for my new nursery (a black and white forest fantasy) and I came across this clock, which is whimsical take on an old cuckoo clock. It was absolutely perfect, keeps great time and totally bridges that gap for me between tradition and modernism. Everybody who sees it asks where I got it and I am proud to say Target... I love a bargain! Target.com

Colored Cafe Table

I am in the process of redoing the landscaping at my house, trying to create a modern version of an Old English garden. One of the things that I have been trying to create is small seating groups around the garden, places that might be perfect for a spot to sit with a drink or even have a quick light lunch. These tables are perfect for what I need, first of all the colors are great, nice and bright and will add a tremendous splash of color anywhere they are used. I think the best thing about them is that they are adjustable in height, so I can use them for cocktails or dinner, by switching the level they are at. I would like to see some in pastels too, but for now I am thrilled about the discovery. Smart Furniture.

Braided Jute Rugs

One of my favorite things in the world is natural fiber rugs. Whether it's jute, sisal or sea grass I love them all. I like to layer my rugs by using a large natural rug, with a decorative one over the top; it makes each of them look more special. On the other hand this rug seems a little thick for that; it is probably best used alone, perhaps in a bedroom, since it’s quite nice on the feet. Any which way you decide I am sure it will be a beautiful addition to any space, traditional or modern. West Elm.

Hi, Do you have any recommendations for a great mailbox? All I see are clunky and provincial. Looing for something modern and cool, but not just bent sheet metal because someone thinks that is cool, but it still is not well designed. Thanks! Trish
