HOME TRUTHS: A One-Stop Website for Greening Your House
In Category: Green Design

The Home Depot’s Eco Options microsite offers tips, online tools, and product suggestions for creating an environmentally friendly house.
It’s well and good to read about environmentally friendly house improvements, but if you’re still stymied by how to implement them, a new web resource can help. The Home Depot’s interactive Eco Options microsite offers house and apartment dwellers alike background information on green living and specific product suggestions across five categories: clean air, energy efficient, healthy home, sustainable forestry, and water conservation. The destination includes such tools as a Home Efficiency Audit, which enables visitors to measure their energy and water usage, and calculators that estimate how much their fuel bills would decrease if they installed a programmable thermostat or switched from incandescent to compact florescent bulbs.
The site’s best feature is its real-time workshops hosted several times a month; its library of on-demand home-improvement videos is great, too. And for those who can’t spare the time or Internet bandwidth for such programming, there are straightforward, downloadable project guides ranging from the ABCs of organic gardening to draft-proofing your space.

Real-time online seminars and on-demand videos, such as this one about greening your home from the inside out, are among the Eco Option site’s features.
